This guide walks you through creating a Coinstash account in the mobile app, using the updated onboarding flow released in May 2026. It takes a few minutes, and at the end you'll verify your identity so you can start depositing and trading. The screens may look slightly different depending on your device, but the steps are the same.
Before you start
The Coinstash app installed on your phone.
A valid identity document, such as a driver's licence or passport. Make sure it's current (not expired).
Your details: your legal name, date of birth and residential address, exactly as they appear on your ID.
About 5 minutes somewhere well lit, so you can take clear photos and a selfie.
A referral code (optional), if someone has given you one.
Step-by-step: creating your account
Step 1: Choose the type of account you want to open
After starting the sign-up process, you'll be asked which account type you'd like to open. You can choose from:
Individual — a personal account to invest.
Company — invest under a registered entity. See How to Open Your Coinstash Company Account for the documents you'll need.
SMSF — invest with a self-managed super fund. See How to Open Your Coinstash SMSF Account.
Trust — invest on behalf of a trust.
Select the account type that applies to you, then tap Continue.
Step 2: Enter your name
Next, enter the name you'd like to go by. Coinstash uses this to personalise emails and account communications. (Your legal name for verification is collected later, in Step 4.)
If you have a referral code, tap Enter code and enter it before continuing. Once your name has been entered, tap Continue.
Step 3: Create your password
Create a secure password for your Coinstash account. Your password must include:
A minimum of 8 characters
Lowercase and uppercase letters
At least 1 number
At least 1 symbol
When all requirements are met, tap Continue. Use a password you don't use anywhere else — it's one of the simplest ways to keep your account safe.
Step 4: Verify your account
To unlock full access and help keep your funds secure, you'll need to complete account verification. The app will guide you through the process, which usually takes around 5 minutes.
Tap Verify account and follow the prompts.
What you may need for verification
To complete verification, you will be asked to provide identity information. This can include:
Your legal name
Your date of birth
Your residential address
A valid identity document
A selfie
Make sure the information you enter matches your identity document. We ask for this because, as a registered Australian exchange, Coinstash is required by law to verify the identity of every customer. Learn more in Understanding Identity Verification (KYC).
After verification
Once your account is verified, you'll be able to access the full Coinstash app experience, including depositing funds and trading supported cryptocurrencies. Good next steps:

Troubleshooting
I can't tap Continue on the password screen. Check that your password meets every requirement listed in Step 3, including at least 1 symbol.
My verification was unsuccessful. Check that the details you entered exactly match your ID, and that your ID is current. Retake photos in a well-lit room, avoid glare, and make sure all four corners of the document are visible. If it still doesn't work, contact Coinstash Support through the app.
