How to Buy Cryptocurrency on Coinstash

Step-by-step guide to buying crypto with AUD on the Coinstash app or website, plus what you'll see on the quote screen and how to automate buys.

This guide shows you how to buy cryptocurrency with Australian dollars (AUD) on Coinstash, on either the mobile app or the desktop website. You can choose from 1,000+ digital assets, and your purchase executes instantly at the current market price.

Before you start

  • Verified account: You need to be at least Tier 1 verified to deposit AUD. Tier 0 accounts can view the platform but can't transact. See What are Account Verification Tiers?

  • AUD in your account: Deposit AUD via PayID or Osko bank transfer for the fastest access to funds. See Depositing AUD into Your Coinstash Account.

  • Know what you want to buy: Have the coin's name or ticker handy (for example BTC, ETH or SOL).

Step-by-step: buying crypto

Step 1 – Go to the trading screen

  • Mobile App: Tap Buy / Sell on the main navigation bar.

  • Desktop Website: Click Trade in the top menu header.

Step 2 – Find your coin

Use the search bar to find the cryptocurrency you want to purchase (for example BTC, ETH or SOL). Double-check the name and ticker, as some coins have similar names.

Step 3 – Choose Buy

Select the coin, then click the Buy button.

Step 4 – Enter the amount

Enter the amount of AUD you want to spend. The estimated amount of crypto you'll receive is shown automatically.

Step 5 – Review the quote

Tap Preview Buy. This screen shows the current market price and the trade fee, so you know exactly what you're paying before you commit. Learn more about the trade fee and the spread.

Step 6 – Confirm your purchase

  • Mobile App: Swipe the Buy Now arrow to the right to execute.

  • Desktop Website: Click the Buy button to finalise.

Once confirmed, your crypto appears in your Portfolio.

💡 Ways to buy

  • Instant market orders (default): By default, your purchase is an "Instant Order", meaning it executes immediately at the current market price.

  • Limit orders (desktop only): Want to buy at a specific price? Use the Limit Order feature on our desktop platform to set your target entry point. See What is a Buy Limit Order?

  • Conditional orders: Automate your trades by specifying target prices. When the market price meets your target, the system triggers a buy or sell order automatically. See What is a Conditional Order?

  • Recurring buys (desktop only): Set up Recurring Buys (Automatic Purchases) to regularly purchase selected cryptocurrencies. This supports long-term investing through dollar-cost averaging, without trying to time the market.

Automating your buys

Using conditional orders to automate buys and sells

Conditional orders let you automate trades by setting a target price. When the market price of a cryptocurrency reaches your target, a buy or sell order is triggered automatically, so you don't need to watch the market constantly.

  1. Log in to your Coinstash account.

  2. Go to the trading interface.

  3. Select the cryptocurrency you want to buy or sell.

  4. Specify the target price and whether it's a buy or sell order.

  5. Confirm and save your conditional order. Coinstash then tracks the market price and executes the order when your conditions are met.

Setting up automatic recurring purchases

Automatic recurring purchases let you invest regularly without placing each trade yourself.

  1. Log in to the Coinstash website using a desktop or laptop.

  2. Go to the Automatic Purchases section.

  3. Select the cryptocurrencies to include in your purchase plan.

  4. Choose the percentage of each deposit to allocate to each cryptocurrency.

  5. Set up a recurring bank transfer from your banking app to fund your Coinstash account. Once set up, purchases proceed automatically as long as your account is funded.

⚠️ Important

  • Prices move. Crypto prices can change quickly. Always check the quote on the preview screen before you confirm. For smaller coins, the final price can differ slightly from what you saw. See Slippage and liquidity explained.

  • Only buy because you chose to. If someone you met online, a "support agent" or an "investment manager" is telling you which coin to buy and where to send it, stop and talk to us first. Learn how to spot a scam.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the coin I want. Check the spelling or try the ticker. The coin may not be listed, or may be temporarily unavailable. See What coins are listed on Coinstash? or request a new coin.

I don't have enough AUD to buy. Make sure your deposit has arrived. If it's taking longer than expected, see Why is my AUD Deposit Delayed?

I can only buy a small amount of a coin. Some low-liquidity coins have trade size limits to protect you from large price movements. See Slippage and liquidity explained.

I can't see the Limit Order option in the app. Limit orders are available on the desktop website.
