This guide shows you how to sell cryptocurrency for Australian dollars (AUD) on Coinstash, using the mobile app or the website, and what you can do with the proceeds afterwards.
Before you start
Hold the coin: You can only sell crypto that's in your Coinstash Portfolio. If it's in another wallet or exchange, deposit it first. See How to Deposit Cryptocurrency into Your Coinstash Account.
Want to swap instead? If you'd rather exchange one coin directly for another, see How do I Swap Crypto to Crypto?
Step-by-step: selling crypto
Step 1 – Open Buy / Sell
Log in to Coinstash on the mobile app or the website, then go to the Buy / Sell section.
Step 2 – Choose the cryptocurrency
From the list of supported coins, select the cryptocurrency you want to sell. For example, to sell PANDA, select it from the list.
Step 3 – Choose Sell and enter the amount
Choose the Sell option and set the amount you want to sell.
Step 4 – Review and confirm
Check the details, including the price and the trade fee, then confirm the trade.
Step 5 – Your crypto is converted to AUD
Once confirmed, your cryptocurrency is converted to Australian dollars (AUD) and the AUD equivalent appears in your Coinstash account.
After you sell
You can keep the AUD on the platform to buy again later, or transfer it to your bank account, depending on your account's verification tier. AUD withdrawals can only be made to a bank account in the same name as your Coinstash account. See Withdrawing AUD to Your Bank Account.
Account verification tiers and what you can do
Coinstash uses a tier-based system to determine the actions you can perform on the platform:
Tier 1 accounts: You can deposit cryptocurrency and deposit and withdraw AUD. However, you cannot withdraw cryptocurrency until your account is upgraded to Tier 2.
Tier 2 accounts: All Tier 1 privileges, plus the ability to withdraw cryptocurrency.
This means you can sell cryptocurrency and hold the AUD on the platform even if crypto withdrawals aren't available to you yet. For daily limits at each tier, see What are Account Verification Tiers?
Want to sell at a set price?
Instead of selling straight away, you can set up an order that sells automatically when the price reaches a level you choose:
Take Profit Order – sell if the price rises to your target.
Stop Loss Order – sell if the price falls to a level you set, to limit losses.
For buying, see Buy Limit Order and Buy Stop Order.
Troubleshooting
I got a slightly different price than I expected. Prices can move between placing and executing a trade, especially for smaller coins. See Slippage and liquidity explained.
I can't sell a coin. Some coins can be temporarily unavailable to trade, for example during network maintenance. Check the coin's page in the app for notices, or contact us.
I can't withdraw my AUD. Make sure you've added a bank account in your own name. See Withdrawing AUD to Your Bank Account.
