How to create an API key in Coinstash

Step-by-step guide to generating, managing, and securing a Coinstash API key.

What is a Coinstash API key?

A Coinstash API key lets you connect your account to third-party tools, portfolio trackers, and trading applications. Each key is a unique credential that authorises programmatic access to your account, so treat it like a password and never share it.

Before you start

  • You must have a verified Coinstash account.

  • We recommend enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) before creating an API key.

  • Only create keys for services you trust.

How to create an API key

  1. Log in to your Coinstash account.

  2. Go to Account Settings (under your profile menu).

  3. Select the Security section.

  4. Click Create API Key (or Generate New Key).

  5. Give your key a memorable name so you can identify what it's used for.

  6. Choose the permissions you want the key to have (for example, read-only vs. trade access).

  7. Confirm with your 2FA code if prompted.

  8. Copy your API Key and Secret and store them somewhere safe.

Important: The API secret is only shown once. If you lose it, you'll need to delete the key and create a new one.

Managing your API keys

  • You can view all active keys in the API Keys section.

  • To revoke access, click Revoke next to the key.

  • If you suspect a key has been compromised, revoke it immediately.

Keeping your key secure

  • Never share your API key or secret with anyone.

  • Coinstash staff will never ask for your API key.

  • Use read-only permissions where possible.

  • Revoke keys you no longer use.
