How to Connect Coinstash to Syla for Tax Reporting

Connect Coinstash to Syla with a read-only API key so your transaction history syncs automatically for crypto tax reporting.

Syla is a crypto tax platform that automatically imports your Coinstash trading history, calculates your capital gains, and generates a report ready for your accountant or the ATO. This guide shows you how to connect the two using a read-only API key. Setup takes about 5 minutes.

Before you start

Step 1 — Open Data Sources in Syla

Log in to your Syla account. From the left-hand menu, click Data Sources — or click Add Data Source on the dashboard.

Step 2 — Select Coinstash

In the Add Data Source panel, find and click Coinstash in the list of exchanges. You can also use the search bar to find it quickly.

Step 3 — Generate a read-only API key in Coinstash

After you select Coinstash, Syla shows setup instructions alongside an Access Token field. Leave this tab open — you'll now create a read-only API key in your Coinstash account.

3a. Open Account Settings

In Coinstash, click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Account Settings.

3b. Go to API Keys

From the left menu, click Security, scroll down to API Keys and click Create API Key.

3c. Create a read-only key

  1. Enter Syla as the API Key Name.

  2. Enter your Coinstash password.

  3. Toggle Trade Permission and Withdraw Permission both to OFF.

  4. Click Create API Key and enter your 2FA code if prompted.

⚠️ Important: Keep both Trade and Withdraw permissions OFF. Syla only requires read access — it cannot and should not be able to trade or move your funds.

Once created, your key appears in the API Keys list with Permissions: read.

Step 4 — Paste the token into Syla and sync

  1. Copy the Access Token shown in Coinstash.

  2. Return to Syla and paste it into the Access Token field.

  3. Make sure the Sync tab is selected (shown as Best).

  4. Click Secure Sync.

Syla will import your full Coinstash transaction history. Within a few seconds, Coinstash will appear in your Data Sources with a green sync indicator and your transaction count.

✅ You're all set! Head to Tax Reports in Syla's left menu to view your capital gains summary and download your annual tax report.

⚠️ Keep your API key safe

  • Treat your Access Token like a password. Only paste it into Syla, and never share it with anyone who contacts you.

  • Coinstash staff will never ask for your API key, password or 2FA code.

  • If you stop using Syla, revoke the key in the API Keys section of Coinstash. See How to create an API key in Coinstash.

⚠️ Syla is a third-party service. Coinstash can't give tax advice — please speak to a registered tax agent about your tax return.

Troubleshooting

I can't see API Keys. Make sure you're on the Coinstash desktop website and have opened Account Settings > Security.

Syla says the token is invalid. Check you copied the whole Access Token with no extra spaces. If it still fails, create a new key and try again.

Some transactions are missing in Syla. If you've used other wallets or exchanges, connect those too. For questions about Syla's calculations, contact Syla support.
