Summ is a crypto tax platform that automatically imports your Coinstash trading history, calculates your capital gains, and generates tax reports ready for your accountant or the ATO. This guide shows you how to connect the two using a read-only API key. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
Before you start
A Summ account — log in at Summ.
The Coinstash desktop website, your Coinstash password and access to your email for the 2FA verification.
Step 1 — Add your Coinstash account in Summ
Log in to Summ and go through the onboarding flow: confirm your country, then click Add accounts. On the Import data step, search for Coinstash and click it to open the import panel.
You'll see two options: Sync via API (recommended) and Upload File. Select Sync via API.
Step 2 — Generate a read-only API key in Coinstash
Next, create a read-only API key in Coinstash to give Summ secure access to your transaction data.
2a. Open Account Settings
Log in to Coinstash, click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Account Settings.
2b. Go to API Keys
From the left menu, click Security, scroll down to API Keys and click Create API Key.
2c. Create a read-only key
Enter Summ as the API Key Name.
Enter your Coinstash password.
Toggle Trade Permission and Withdraw Permission both to OFF.
Click Create API Key — a 2FA verification will be sent to your email.
⚠️ Important: Keep both Trade and Withdraw permissions OFF. Summ requests view permissions only — it will never request private keys or transfer your funds.
Once created, your key appears in the list with Permissions: read.
Step 3 — Paste your API key into Summ and connect
Copy the Access Token shown in Coinstash.
Return to Summ and paste it into the API Key field.
Optionally, enter a name in the API name field (e.g. "Coinstash").
Click Secure Connect.
Summ will begin syncing your Coinstash transaction history. Your account will appear in the Accounts list with a Syncing status, then update automatically once complete.
✅ You're all set! Head to Reports in Summ's left menu to view your capital gains summary and download your annual tax report.
⚠️ Keep your API key safe
Treat your Access Token like a password. Only paste it into Summ, and never share it with anyone who contacts you.
Coinstash staff will never ask for your API key, password or 2FA code.
If you stop using Summ, revoke the key in the API Keys section of Coinstash. See How to create an API key in Coinstash.
⚠️ Summ is a third-party service. Coinstash can't give tax advice — please speak to a registered tax agent about your tax return.
Troubleshooting
I didn't get the 2FA email. Check your junk or spam folder, and make sure you're checking the email address linked to your Coinstash account.
Summ says the key is invalid. Check you copied the whole Access Token with no extra spaces. If it still fails, create a new key and try again.
Prefer to upload a file? Choose Upload File in Step 1 and use a CSV export — see How do I Export My Transaction History as a CSV File?
