If you no longer need access to a client's SMSF account through the Adviser Portal, disconnecting is simple. This article explains how it works and what happens afterwards.
Before you start
At present, disconnection needs to be initiated by the client. Advisers can't remove themselves directly, but clients can do so at any time from their account settings.
How to request disconnection
Step 1 – Reach out to your client
Ask your client to revoke your access. You can use this suggested message:
Hi [Client Name], if you'd like to remove my view-only access to your Coinstash SMSF account, you can do so by logging in, going to "Settings > Adviser Access" and selecting "Revoke" next to my name.
You can also send them our guide: How do I revoke / remove accountant access to my account?
Step 2 – Your client revokes access
Your client:
Logs into their Coinstash account
Navigates to Settings > Adviser Access
Clicks Revoke next to your name
Step 3 – Your access ends immediately
You'll no longer see that client in your dashboard. Any portfolio data or reports, including the integration with BGL, will no longer be available to you.
⚠️ Important
Under the Adviser Access Agreement, once your access is revoked you must stop using that client's data, and delete it unless you're required by law to keep it.
If your client needs you to have access again later, they can send you a new invitation. See How to Connect to a Client.
Why it works this way
This approach ensures that client permissions are managed cleanly and consistently from the client's end, just like other shared-access platforms (e.g. Xero). Your client always stays in control of who can see their account.
FAQ
My client isn't responding. Can Coinstash remove my access? Contact our support team and we'll talk you through the options.
Will my client be notified? Your client is the one who revokes access, so they'll know straight away. You'll simply stop seeing them in your dashboard.
