This article explains when and why Coinstash may be required to share customer information with Australian government agencies, what information can be requested, and how we protect your privacy throughout the process.
Why we receive information requests
Coinstash is a fully registered digital currency exchange provider with AUSTRAC. Under law, Coinstash is required to provide information to a range of government agencies when requested.
Government agencies may request customer information for various reasons, including:
Combating financial crime
Protecting Commonwealth or State revenue
Safeguarding national security
How requests are made and checked
Under Australian law, a request can be made in the form of a warrant or court order. There may also be other ways a request can be put to Coinstash.
We value the privacy of our customers, so we carefully check the validity of each request by obtaining independent legal advice.
What information can be requested
Information requests can include personal data such as your:
Name, address, phone number and date of birth
Transaction history
Wallet addresses
IP address
Can you tell me if my information was requested?
No. We are prohibited under Australian legislation from providing details of specific requests made by government agencies.
You can read more about how we collect, use and disclose personal information in our Privacy Policy and Privacy Collection Notice.
⚠️ Beware of fake "government" contact
Scammers often pretend to be from a government agency, the police, your bank or Coinstash. If anyone asks you to send crypto, share your login details or 2FA codes, or move funds "for safekeeping", it's a scam. Neither Coinstash nor a genuine government agency will ask you to do this. Stop contact and talk to us. Learn about impersonation scams.
