How to transfer crypto with/without destination or memo tag?

When depositing cryptocurrency into your account, some assets require a memo or destination tag, while others do not. Providing the correct information is critical to ensure your funds are credited successfully. Missing or incorrect details may result in delays or permanent loss of funds.
This article explains:
- What a memo/destination tag is

- How to deposit correctly with or without a memo
- Common mistakes and important reminders
What Is a Memo / Destination Tag?
A memo, also known as a destination tag, payment ID, or message, is an additional identifier used by some blockchain networks.
Why is it needed?
Some blockchains use shared wallet addresses for exchanges. The memo/tag tells the system which user account the deposit belongs to.
- The wallet address identifies the exchange
- The memo/tag identifies your specific account
Without the correct memo/tag, the system cannot automatically assign the funds to you.
Transferring Crypto Without a Memo / Destination Tag
Steps:
- Go to Deposit
- Select the asset and network
- Copy the wallet address
- Send funds to the address only
- Leave Memo/Destination tag as blank
Transferring Crypto With a Memo / Destination Tag
If the asset requires a memo/tag, you must provide both the wallet address and the memo/tag.
Steps:
- Go to Deposit in your account
- Select the cryptocurrency and correct network
- Copy:
- Deposit wallet address
- Memo / destination tag (if shown)
- Paste both fields into the sending wallet or exchange
- Confirm the transaction
Funds will be credited automatically once the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain.
What Happens If I Forget or Enter the Wrong Memo?
Possible outcomes:
- Deposit is not credited automatically
- Manual recovery may be required (if technically possible)
- Recovery is not guaranteed and may take time
- In some cases, funds may be permanently lost
Important Reminders
- Always double-check:
- Wallet address
- Network
- Memo / destination tag (if required)
- Do not reuse old deposit addresses or memos unless explicitly allowed
- Never send crypto using a different network than specified
